Coming out of Brad Fulchuk’s overall deal for Netflix is a new action family drama series, The Brothers Sun. Here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about the new series headlined by Michelle Yeoh and Justin Chien.
First announced in February 2022, the new TV series prides itself on being an «Asian-American show, written by Asian-Americans and directed by Asian-Americans.» Eight episodes were ordered in advance.
brad falchuck is the creator, executive producer and showrunner of the project. Falchuk is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Ryan Murphy on various projects, including American crime story and american horror story. For Netflix, the creator of Netflix worked on seasons 1 and 2 of The politician (He is not expected to return for Season 3.) Falchuk works exclusively with Netflix under an umbrella agreement reached in March 2019.

He also serves as a creator on the project Bryan Wu, marking his first major project since the 2018 short The escape.

What is The Brothers Sun about on Netflix?
The series is described as a dark action comedy about two estranged Taiwanese brothers. One of them is a college student in Los Angeles and the other is a Triad gangster in Taipei.
Bruce Sun is a meek college student whose only concern is hiding his dreams of being the next improv comedy star from his mother. His estranged older brother, Charles Sun, was raised by his crime boss father to be a ruthless killer and put his duty to his family above all else. However, when a mysterious assassin shoots his father, Charles has to go to Los Angeles to protect his mother and give Bruce a crash course in the family business.
As part of Netflix’s action slate reveal in May 2023, an extended synopsis was revealed:
“When a mysterious assassin shoots the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad, his eldest son, legendary assassin Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and her naive youngest son.
brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li), who has been completely shielded from the truth of his family until now. But as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a rising new faction go head-to-head for dominance, Charles, Bruce, and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and discover what brotherhood and family really mean before of being killed by one of their innumerable enemies. all.»

Who will be in the cast of Netflix’s The Brothers Sun?

Justin Chien will play the lead role of Charles Sun. He is best known for child pool and Two Sides: Unfaithful.
michelle yeoh will play Mama Sun. Yeoh is coming off his excellent performance in A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once and will also appear in The Witcher: Origin of Blood later in 2022.

When is The Brothers Sun in production on Netflix?
Filming for the series began on June 15, 2022 and lasted until September 23, 2022. However, it has been indicated that the series went into post-production at a later date on February 22, 2023. We are not sure why. what are two post production dates, but this could have been for possible retakes.
According to production listings, the series was primarily filmed in Taipei City in Taiwan and Los Angeles, California, United States.
When will The Brothers Sun be on Netflix?
A release window has not yet been set.
However, we expect it to launch no later than 2023 or early 2024.
