Former NFL defensive end and sports analyst Marcellus Wiley weighed in after the Shooting at Michigan State University that left three college students dead and five others injured on Monday.

The shooter, Anthony McRae, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday night.

Calls for stricter gun control laws followed, but the former Pro Bowler blamed the individuals pulling the trigger unlike weapons used in mass shootings.

“We need to stop blaming the gun and start looking at the humans and people who are now responsible with those guns,” Wiley said in a Twitter post Tuesday. «And unfortunately, like today’s incidents [at Michigan State]irresponsible with those weapons».

“Someone told me this once: They said, ‘We blame the guns in this country more than anything.’ But if you think about it, if you put a gun on a table, it doesn’t do anything,» Wiley continued. «It takes a human to activate. It takes a human to be that weapon of destruction.»

Wiley said calls for gun control won’t make society safer, as people who break the law will still find a way to get guns.

«Ban all guns and then guess what? That will make schools safer, streets safer and communities safer,» Wiley continued. «I don’t think I would. Do you know why? Because if you ban all guns, only bad guys will have access to guns, right? Because bad guys aren’t going to follow the law.»

Wiley played for 10 years in the NFL, spending time with four different organizations.
