Willpower the agent of the night be back for a season 2? The answer is yes, since it was renewed less than a week after its debut. The renewal comes as no surprise given the explosive first week the show had on Netflix. Here is everything we know about the agent of the night season 2 so far.
Serving as an adaptation of Matthew Quirk’s novel, the agent of the night novel (along with some expanded and original ideas), the show follows a young FBI agent who answers a call that plunges him into a deadly conspiracy involving a mole in the White House.

Netflix has officially renewed the agent of the night for a second season and announced that the second season will debut in 2024 with 10 episodes.

We couldn’t be prouder or more excited to kick off Season 2 to share the additional adventures of Night Action with our new fans.»

As we’ve covered before, all renewals come down to numbers. As we’ll cover below, The Night Agent put up great numbers and couple that with the fact that the completion rate seems to be high and the budget of the show (which reportedly ranges from $2-$3 million per episode, up to $30 million total) made it a piece of cake.
Shawn Ryan before the renewal implied that there is room for more story speaking to Deadline, saying:
“I certainly have some ideas; You probably want to keep them for me until the time comes. What I will tell you is that the initial pitch for this show that we sold to Netflix was that each season would tell its own story, mostly self-contained, with a beginning, middle, and end, and any future season would include a few but not most of the characters we saw in the previous season.”

Netflix itself every Tuesday post 40 stats per hour for its top shows and movies and its data shows that The Night Agent had a great debut on Netflix.
According to their press release, «The action thriller ranks #3 in opening week viewing across all of TV Season 1 and appeared in the Top 10 in 93 countries.»

How do the numbers compare to other Netflix Originals? Well, we can compare to a few other shows that debuted last year and just in terms of weekend openings, The Night Agent beat out the likes of The vigilant, the recruit, and The Lawyer Lincoln.
The Night Agent Raw Hours vs. Other Netflix Originals
If we break down the hourly data into CVE (Full Viewing Equivalent: Taking the length of the show and dividing it by the hours), we can see that it beat out Keep Breathing and 1899, but fell just slightly behind The Watcher.
In our first week top 10 report, What’s on Netflix contributor Frederic said the show had the «second best launch for any series released on a Thursday, just behind The vigilant which ended up getting renewed (a feat for a limited series at the time).”
Early FlixPatrol stats suggests the agent of the night it has become the biggest show on Netflix worldwide after its initial debut. By March 26, 80 countries had the agent of the night as the number 1 program, with eight countries having it as either the number 2 program or the third largest program in South Korea.
What about external factors? The show soared in the ranks according to televisionstats.com, measuring from sources such as Wikipedia, Google Search, Reddit and IMDb. Since March 25, it is the number 1 program on the Internet, surpassing South Park, Daisy Jones and the six, yellow jackets, and Love is blind.

What about the critical acclaim? Audience scores have beaten critics’ scores so far, but they’re mostly positive overall.
In rotten tomatoes, as of March 29, the show has a rating of 82% from the public and 69% from critics. The series has a 7.7/10 based on over 12,000 reviews on IMDb and more on Metacritic It has a rating of 68.

Warning: The Night Agent season 1 spoilers ahead.
While the agent of the night Season 1 certainly answers the biggest questions by the end of episode 10, there is still a lot to learn.
By the time the end credits roll, we learn that Diane Farr, the president’s own chief of staff, is the mole and worked with Vice President Redfield and Gordon Wick to plan the subway bombing. As a result, The Night Agent ends relatively well, but there’s still a lot to potentially explore. After all, Peter ends the season by flying out for his first mission.
As Ryan mentioned in the aforementioned Deadline interview, he suggested that if «they’re successful enough that Netflix wants more seasons, I think there would be a whole new world where you’d see a limited number of characters from this current season.» in that. ”
Ryan also covered some of the biggest questions Season 2 would have to try to answer, including:
- What does it mean that Peter would be a night agent?
- Where is Peter going now?
- With Rose moving back to California, where does that leave Peter and Rose?
Of course, Matthew Quirk has plenty of other novels ripe for adaptations, but like the author explains on Twitter“they are mostly independent”.
That said, who’s to say that? other peculiar novels as Killer Hour, Directive, zero cold barrel, dead man switch, red warningeither insider threat it could not be modified or modified for an entire Shawn Ryan/Matthew Quirk Netflix universe.
