The critically acclaimed 3-part historical western series starring yellow stone star Kevin Costner is attached to Netflix and the series will be released in the United States in April 2023.

Described as a historical western docu-drama, the series dramatizes the bitter blood feud between the two families on the West Virginia-Kentucky border in the years following the Civil War.

Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton headlined the series playing Anse Hatfield and Randal McCoy, respectively. Rounding out the cast were stars like Matt Barr, Tom Berenger, Powers Boothe, Jena Malone, Boyd Holbrook, Noel Fisher and Sam Reid.

The show aired on History in 2012 and went on to sweeps the Primetime Emmys with the acquisition of five awards in total, including Costner winning the acting category.

The show aired on the History Channel as described above, but was licensed to Netflix by Sony Pictures Television and ThinkFactory Media. Sony Pictures Television remains one of the largest distributors continuing to license old content to Netflix US, and most other distributions have pulled up the drawbridge and made their old series exclusive to their streaming services. .

As you know, the Costner series yellow stone has become one of the biggest shows on television, airing on the Paramount Network and airing on Peacock in the United States. Its rise in popularity has given rise to a whole universe of shows. Notably, it is not available on Netflix anywhere in the world.

Therefore, this is a good acquisition of series licenses for Netflix given that there is a clear lack of shows similar to yellow stonealthough Netflix has a number in development that it hopes can compete with Taylor Sheridan’s show.
