Daniel Kaluuya is co-writing and co-producing The kitchen, a new British dystopian thriller directed exclusively for Netflix. Having been in development since at least 2016, the new movie has wrapped production and is expected to hit «late 2023.»

59% Productions and DMC Film are collaborating on the film, which is being dubbed as a futuristic dystopian drama. Film4 and Factory Fifteen are also producing.

That The kitchen on Netflix about?
Here’s a synopsis of the «high concept» project set to film in London and Paris and has, according to sources, begun:
“London, 2040: Rising house prices, a computerized workforce and the eradication of the Welfare State have turned the city into a playground for billionaires, driving the lower classes into tall, empty buildings like slums like The Kitchen. Ex-Smash-and-Grabber Izi is desperate to go straight, but when his youngest child contracts a devastating disease, he is forced to take part in a heist that will change the lives of everyone in The Kitchen forever.
Daniel Kaluuya, on the announcement of the film posted on Instagram:
“This has been an 8 year process with director @kibwetavares and producer Dan Emmerson, it started from a conversation in a barbershop when I found out that kids were doing million pound robberies in a minute for £200 at a dystopian London in the future.
Production has just started on The Kitchen. Proud to be co-writing (with Joe Murtagh) and producing this through my production company 59%, DMC film, Film 4 & @netflixuk @netflix.

Who’s behind The kitchen on netflix?
The initial idea for the project came from Daniel Kaluuya, Kibwe Tavares and Daniel Emmerson, who are involved with the project in various capacities.
Kibwe Tavares he will make his feature directorial debut in the film. He is the founder of a production company called Factory Fifteen. He notably worked at the BBC Knots + Crosses as executive producer. He has also directed and written numerous science fiction short films, including robot and scarecrow, Polar Bear, and Brixtus’s robotsnorth.
Speaking about the project, Tavares said:
“The Kitchen is very much a love letter to London, the city that has defined my childhood and ultimately my identity. It is set in an extreme version of our current world; our characters have no choice but to let the city take over them. Through Benji, a 12-year-old boy in need of care, we explore what we lose as a society in the ever-changing and shifting patterns of life in our cities. This is a movie for all the communities that are trying to take care of each other.”
The co-authors of the project are daniel kaluya and joe murtagh.
Kaluuya is the Oscar-winning actor, writer, and producer known for artists such as Go out, Black Panther, and those of netflix black mirror episode Fifteen million merits. Kaluuya is also attached to another high-profile Netflix project where he will star in and produce. The project in question is the upper world first announced for Netflix in August 2020. Kaluuya was mentioned in the aforementioned interview to star in the Netflix movie, but it is unknown if that is still the case.
Murtagh worked on two major projects, including Easy with the Horses (another DMC movie) and London gangs.
adeshina kareem serves as an associate producer on the film, wyatt garfield He is a cinematographer.
Who stars in Netflix’s The Kitchen?
Two names have been announced for the film in conjunction with today’s announcement.
Kane Robinson (Kano) will play the lead role of Izi which recently appeared on Netflix top boy season 2.
Jedaiah Bannermana newcomer, he will play Benji’s co-star.
Also, the cast of The kitchen includes:

- Demmy Ladipo (queen) like jase
- Lola Rose Maxwell (dazzled) as Fiona
The kitchen has been in development for six years
The project has been in the works for quite some time. It was publicly announced for the first time. in 2016participating in a Sundance Directors Lab scheme but resubmitted via 2018 ScreenDaily profile on DMC Film. The profile talks about the upcoming movie. Easy with the Horses (a film that Netflix licensed in many regions last year) and even talks about a “dystopian thriller” called “The Kitchen, written by Daniel Kaluuya and directed by Kibwe Tavares”.
Going back to 2017, Tavares spoke with one point four about talking about what we can expect, but added that production would start in 2018 (that didn’t happen) and that financing could be an issue, especially given the scope of the film:
“We expect to go into production sometime next year. We have our core funder, Film4, and then we’ll get more funding from other partners, we have one more draft before we do that. But we have a lot of interest because Daniel Kaluuya stars in it and he was also in Get Out, which was a huge success this summer, and anyway we’ve always had a lot of interest from Sundance, they’ve wanted us and pushed us to make it.»
Of course, the movie is now landing on Netflix courtesy of UK Features Director for Netflix, Fiona Lamptey, who joined Netflix in October 2020.
When The kitchen Will it premiere on Netflix?
Production on the film began in late March 2022 and ran for much of 2022. It was filmed in both London and Paris.
According Kareem Adeshina’s websitethe movie will be released on Netflix in late 2023. It’s one of several high-profile movies Netflix has out towards the end of the year, including David Fincher’s. The murderer and Zack Snyder rogue moon.
