Jon Rahm just wants to think about how to combat the treacherous greens and fairways at Los Angeles Country Club this week before the US Open.

But there’s a big elephant in the room after the historic merger of golf by the PGA Tour, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund and the DP World Tour.

Rahm admitted to reporters Tuesday that the PGA Tour players he stayed with when LIV Golf tried to drive him away, and others who walked away from the tour feel «betrayed.»

«There are a lot of unanswered questions, and it’s tough the week leading up to a major,» Rahm said. «I try not to think about it as much as possible. I think there comes a point where you want to have faith in management, and I want to have faith that this is what’s best for all of us, but clearly that’s not the consensus. .

«The general feeling is that a lot of people feel a bit of betrayal from management.»

Rahm, like Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and the rest of the players, had no idea that the merger was coming. Rahm called it a «bombshell» that he found out about while he was babysitting his children.

«We’re certainly at a point where there’s a big question mark, where we don’t have the answers that we’d like. It’s hard to say,» said Rahm, the world No. 2 player entering this week.

McIlroy had a positive outlook despite expressing some confusion last week before the RBC Canadian Open. And Collin Morikawa was direct with his questions.

«We want to know why,» Morikawa said, via ESPN, of the merger. «I think there are so many different parties involved that there are too many answers to really put it into an underlying umbrella of why because I think what you’ve seen from the players versus what you’ve seen from maybe our commissioner versus the board versus yasir [Al-Rumayyan] versus LIV versus… there are many parties involved. Everyone’s had kind of a different response and a different reaction to all of this.»

The consensus hope among PGA Tour players, and everyone in professional golf, is that there is an explanation forthcoming.

It’s been two weeks since it was announced, and the initial reaction from some players was that PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan was a «hypocrite» as he previously cited the 9/11 terrorist attacks to condemn LIV Golf and its finances backed by Saudi Arabia.
