Patrick and Brittany Mahomes opened up about how they met and ended up together, becoming high school sweethearts and then husband and wife.
In the first episode of the Netflix series «Quarterback,» the star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs said that he and Brittany met in seventh and eighth grade. Patrick said that Brittany was a grade above him, but he was stuck in the «friend zone.»

«It was like the best friend, in the friend zone forever,» he said. «I used to walk her to class and was trying to flirt. When I was a sophomore in high school, and she was a junior, I actually bought her a rose and had a little crush on her. But I was giving the pink as a joke, but kind of a ‘joke’ quote.»
Brittany said that Patrick thought it was a joke, but didn’t take it that way.
«I thought it was the cutest thing in the world,» she said. «And then everyone at our lunch table started chanting, ‘Kiss him, kiss him!’ and it made it really awkward because we were ‘just friends’ That’s how it started and I thought it was cute.…

«So they were singing and I thought it was kind of awkward, and it was funny and then just… I was like, ‘OK, this guy’s actually kind of cute. Maybe I like him.'» So we started talking and then we started dating.»
